The Chobani brand page describes the yogurt as 'an excellent source of protein' but gives no gram figure. Open Food Facts records can lag a recipe change, so the Nutrition Facts panel on the package is the reference for current protein content.

Oikos lists 90 calories per cup, and Chobani lists 60 calories per cup. Oikos's brand claim reads '*Not a low-calorie food,' and Chobani's page reads '*Not a low calorie food.'

Why does Chobani Zero Sugar have 0g sugar?
Chobani's brand page describes the yogurt as 'naturally 0g sugar' per 5.3 oz cup, alongside 60 calories and a lactose-free claim, according to Chobani's Zero Sugar page. Under FDA's October 2020 guidance, allulose may be excluded from the Total Sugars and Added Sugars lines. That is one reason a zero-sugar claim can appear on a product that contains a sugar-like sweetener.
The Open Food Facts record for Chobani lists 5 g of carbohydrate per 5.3 oz cup and 0 g of added sugars. The Oikos label lists 5 g total sugars and 0 g added sugars per cup.
Why Does Allulose Matter for the Sugar Claim on Chobani's Label?
Does Chobani Zero Sugar have allulose?
Yes. Allulose is listed in the Chobani Zero Sugar Strawberry ingredient list. The Chobani page does not give a per-cup gram amount for it.
FDA's October 2020 guidance says the agency 'intends to exercise enforcement discretion' for allulose, which allows it to be excluded from Total Sugars and Added Sugars. The guidance also allows manufacturers to use 0.4 calories per gram for allulose on labels, according to FDA's allulose labeling guidance.
Oikos Triple Zero Strawberry does not list allulose.

How Do the Full Ingredient Lists Differ Beyond the Sweeteners?
The two lists share several ingredients, and each also lists ingredients the other does not.
- Shared: natural flavors; a tapioca ingredient (tapioca starch on Oikos, tapioca flour on Chobani); vegetable juice concentrate for color; stevia leaf extract; sea salt.
- Chobani only: allulose; monk fruit extract; citrus fiber; guar gum; citric acid; enzyme.
- Oikos only: lemon juice concentrate; vitamin D3.
- Both list cultures, but only Oikos names them (S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus).
The Chobani label names only 'enzyme' and 'cultures,' so the specific enzyme and cultures are not disclosed. The Oikos label names its cultures, which gives more detail in this one area.
The Open Food Facts record for the Oikos barcode shows an earlier formula with chicory root fiber, sodium citrate and malic acid, and 7 g of carbohydrate. When Oikos changed that formula is not disclosed, so the package in hand is the current reference.
What Does FDA Say About Stevia and Monk Fruit?
Both products list stevia leaf extract, so this part applies to both labels. FDA has said it has no questions about GRAS notices for certain steviol glycosides, which are reported to be 200-400 times sweeter than table sugar. A 'no questions' response means FDA has no further questions about a company's conclusion that an ingredient is generally recognized as safe for its intended use. It is not a statement that every individual will respond the same way.
Chobani's label specifies Reb M within its stevia leaf extract. The Oikos label does not specify which steviol glycoside its stevia leaf extract contains.
Chobani also lists monk fruit extract. FDA has said it has no questions about GRAS notices for Siraitia grosvenorii Swingle fruit extract, known as monk fruit or luo han guo, which is reported to be 100-250 times sweeter than sugar.
The evidence has limits. Regulatory responses describe an ingredient in general terms and do not establish how any single person responds to it. For our related news coverage, see Does Stevia Spike Insulin? New Trials and an EFSA Reb M Opinion and EFSA: no safety concern for new enzyme-made Reb M.
How Can Shoppers Spot the Sweetener Differences on Yogurt Labels?
A few label-reading steps make the differences between these two cups easy to see.
- Find the sweetener line: look for allulose, monk fruit extract, stevia leaf extract or Reb M in the ingredient list.
- Check the order and the 'contains' sections: ingredients are listed by weight, and 'contains 2% or less of' marks the smaller ingredients.
- Compare the Nutrition Facts panel: calories, protein, total sugars and added sugars.
- Look for fiber, vitamin D and calcium lines, which may be missing from some labels.
- Check claims such as 'lactose-free' or '0 artificial sweeteners' against the ingredient list and the panel.
- Compare versions: older Open Food Facts records may show a different formula.
Brand claims such as '0g sugar' or 'an excellent source of protein' are marketing statements. The Nutrition Facts panel and ingredient list give the detail that supports them.
