Aurascan
Food label scanner

A label scanner that keeps the uncertainty.

Scan the barcode on food, drinks, cosmetics, personal care or household products. Aurascan reads the label, adds source-backed context, and keeps facts, interpretation and unknowns visibly separate. It doesn't turn a barcode into a diagnosis or a magic safety score.

Sample result

A sample that says what it is

This is an illustrative example built from a made-up four-ingredient label. It is not a live product analysis, health verdict or endorsement.

Every line has a status

  • Label fact

Printed on the package and read directly.

  • Needs context

Visible on the label, but the label alone can't settle it.

  • Limit

    Something the label cannot establish.

No status is silently upgraded. “Unknown” is a valid answer.

Illustrative sample · not a live scan

Example pantry label

4 ingredients
  • Rolled oats

Read directly from the example label.

    Label fact
  • Almonds

Read directly and carried into the example allergen notice.

    Label fact
  • Cane sugar

The name is visible, but the ingredient list alone doesn't give a serving amount.

    Needs context
  • Sea salt

Ingredient order doesn't establish dose or an individual health effect.

    Limit

Label notice: contains almonds.

Unresolved: serving amount is not provided.

Method

From barcode to a result you can check

  1. 1

    Decode the barcode

The camera reads the barcode on your device. The decoded number starts the product lookup.
  2. 2

    Retrieve the label

Aurascan combines the available product records and keeps track of which source each field came from. If no record exists, you can photograph the label to add the product.
  3. 3

    Separate fact from interpretation

What the label says stays apart from regulatory context, research context and open questions. Findings are scoped to how the product is used, so a lotion isn't read as if it were eaten.
  4. 4

    Show sources and limits

The result shows its citations, how strong the evidence is, a research confidence meter for each ingredient, what is uncertain, and the methodology version behind it.
Evidence

How evidence is labelled, and where it stops

How evidence is labelled

Label fact
Printed ingredients, allergens, nutrition fields (per whole container when the size is known) and product identity.
Regulatory context
Rules or assessments attributed to a named regulator or public authority.
Research context
Human, observational or mechanistic evidence, with its limits kept visible.
Unresolved
A gap stays a gap when the label or evidence can't support a conclusion.

Limits stay beside the result

  • A label can be incomplete, outdated, or different across markets and package sizes.
  • Ingredient order doesn't reveal exact dose, exposure or how you will respond.
  • Research context describes evidence. It can't diagnose, treat or replace clinical advice.
  • AI-assisted research can be wrong. Sources and unresolved states stay visible so claims can be checked.

The camera reads locally

When barcode scanning is on, the camera decodes the number on your device. Only the decoded barcode is sent for the product lookup. Camera footage is not uploaded as part of a barcode scan.
